Another church that refuses service animals, I'm seeing more and more of this. As a Christian and a disability awareness advocate, this really disappoints me and puts real Christians in a negative light.

I am heartbroken that this church behaved in a matter that is contradictory of Christlikeness. How does the pastor or the leaders justify refusing to allow a service dog into the wedding ceremony of this woman's mother? Really?

That's Christian compassion at its worst. There is no justification for the decisions they enforced. I'm sure any "solution" they offered was in "the church's best interest" and not that of this mother who has a disability which required the service dog.

Outside of the moral implications of their actions, you have the civil liberties violations (ADA that the ACLU will address) and potential criminal behavior by denying her access, according to federal case law, to all areas of the church that a reasonable other guest would have access to.

A simple "we made a mistake and we are sorry. We will be addressing the policies that now block service pets from the property to prevent another unfortunate instance like this in the future."

If I were a member here, I would have serious issues with my Pastor and leadership team of the church. We can only hope good comes from this issue. No one should wish anything bad against the church but hold out with hope that they will make changes to prevent this in the future.

I would also recommend the pastor and leadership team retain an ADA and Civil Liberties attorney to manage this case and help them adapt policies that are lawful in every circumstance.
